Substantial Hope

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1/KJV).

Similarly as in 1 Corinthians 13: 7 in the verse quoted above we also have both words: faith and hope. In Hebrews 11:1 we can learn something about how they relate to each other:

  • Faith makes our hopes substantial.
  • Hopes are substantial when based on trusting relationship.
  1. Religious hopes become substantial, when based on faith in Jesus having carried the punishment for our sins on the cross of Calvary.
  2. Religious hopes become substantial when we trust God’s word: trust his commandments and his promises!
